The Renters’ Rights Act 2025 and Penalties

The Renters’ Rights Act 2025 introduces a raft of newrequirements to comply with, each with its own requirements and penalties. Itdifferentiates between “breaches” (generally civil and a penalty of up to£7,000) and offences (criminal and a prosecution or civil penalty of up to£40,000).

If you were guilty of one of each of theoffences we will explain in the coming weeks, and received the maximumpenalty for each, it would add up to nearly a staggering half a million poundsin penalties. Clearly something every agent would want to avoid.
